The Inner Mask

The painting was created during the first period of lockdown, when external quiet made inner experience more visible. In this work, the mask is not a device for hiding. It has become part of the figure’s identity, something shaped by time, solitude, and endurance.

The eyes are central to the emotional force of the painting. They do not passively receive light from the outside; they appear to emit light from within. This inner illumination turns the figure into a presence that remains alive, aware, and unbroken.

Across the face and crown, floral and ornamental forms are fused with a weathered surface. These details no longer function as decoration alone. They feel aged, mineral, and inseparable from the body itself, suggesting memory, erosion, and transformation.

The Inner Mask is a painting about resilience. Solitude changes identity, but it does not erase it. Even under pressure, something essential remains intact.
